As we are forced apart because of the coronavirus, many of us have the time and ability to come together, digitally, and enjoy culture from our couches!

(continued from previous post) It was a long few (continued from previous post)

It was a long few months stuck at home, but also months that brought a lot of time for rest and reflection. This time has definitely been the most still Thaddeus and I have ever been in our entire marriage, but one can argue that the rest part was short lived when Thaddeus started working on the COVID vaccine; but the opportunity to work to help with the efforts to end this virus was impossible to pass up.

We were fortunate that the spring brought warm beautiful weather and many work days spent with our windows wide open and meal time spent soaking up the sun on our deck. I also was so happy to see my friends in America every day and work out together via video- such a special circumstance that this virus brought! It was also fun catching up on long over due conversations and having extra time to connect to friends and family on video calls. This is the longest I have ever gone without seeing my family, but I am fortunate we always stay well connected and now more than ever feel very fortunate for all of their support of my travels and life abroad!

Quarantine lightened in May and I was happy to be able to see local friends throughout the summer and squeeze in some European driving travel. I went back to work in person, and had mixed feelings about this, but in the end we managed to do this safely and I really connected to my students during this time.

This year in Belgium has been different than what we ever could expect, and definitely not ideal; but I must say I feel very grateful for my circumstances. I am grateful for my health, that I was able to move into a job, during the pandemic, that I love, and for a new outlook on the things I take for granted!

Belgium it’s been a very weird, unpredictable year, but still somehow I have come to love you! I am happy to be here now, and looking forward to move into year two together with hopefully a lot more freedom and ability to get to know each other better!
