My name is Megan Fox (not to be confused with the Transformer action-adventure actress/ model) BUT we do share the same name. I was formerly known as Megan Benz and you may remember me from such blogs as http://americansinbavaria.blogspot.kr/and http://meganbinchile.blogspot.kr/. So, as we touch down in another country, I thought it would be only fitting to entertain you once again with some of my experiences.
So to begin, here’s a little bit about who we are and why we are here…
As you already know, I am Megan. I am married to Thaddeus! We have just begun a new life adventure living and working in Seoul, South Korea! This explains the title of our blog “Seoulmates.” I know – cheesy but I couldn’t resist.
Thaddeus and I met during college, but had grown up in neighboring towns for the majority of our lives. Thaddeus was attending the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York. I was attending school outside of Boston at Fitchburg State University studying Communications Media concentrating in Photography. During my freshman year, Thaddeus and I met through mutual friends and became fast friends. Our friendship turned romantic and we’ve been together ever since!
My first time living abroad was during college when I spent a summer studying food, photography and Italian culture in Verona, Italy. I fell in love with Europe and convinced Thaddeus to backpack through Europe upon our graduation from college. We had an amazing trip. This was a good thing, because the following year Thaddeus was stationed in Vilseck, Germany.
Thaddeus moved to a small city called Amberg, Germany in Bavaria. A few months after his arrival, I joined him there. We spent time traveling through Europe (when Thad wasn’t working) until he was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan for a year in the early summer of 2010.
While Thaddeus was deployed, I continued living abroad splitting the year living first in Archidosso, Italy – a small village in the Tuscan Mountains, and then in South America. I lived in the north of Chile in a city called Antofagasta. In both places I worked as an English teacher.
Upon Thaddeus’ return from Afghanistan, I met him in Germany where we spent a little over a year living, working, and traveling. During that time he proposed to me on a weekend getaway to Paris and we were married in the United States in May 2012!
In August 2012 Thaddeus and I moved back from Germany to the United States where he attended a six month course for his job. The course took place in Oklahoma, and while there I traveled throughout the state working as a photographer. We enjoyed our brief stay back in the United States and getting to explore the American Southwest, but began feeling anxious to once again move abroad. South Korea came onto our radar, and Thaddeus requested a job in Yongsan, Seoul.
He got the slot and, before we knew it, we were selling our cars, packing up our apartment and preparing for another living experience on a new continent and in a new country. And here’s where the story begins!
